Today at volunteering, it was the first day i was asked to wheel a patient down to the community center the hospital has on the first floor. Its a room where all the fun activities that offer to patients are held at. I was able to have the opportunity to wheel down a few patients which was harder than i expected. You really have to have a lot of strenght and i don't know how the nurses do it every day. You have to push the patient gently but at a fast past and turning is also very difficult because some of the wheel chairs don't have leg rest for the patients so they can semi walk their way around the place. I also had to ask them to release the brakes because i was not suppose to touch it because some of the patients could feel like they had their privicy invaded.

Today i reviewed all the codes and procedures. I had to remember that Yellow ribbon meant the patient had diabetes and wasn't allowed to have sugar. I especially had to look out for patients who had a purple ribbon. That meant to approach with caution because they are probably know to take a swing at someone or are aggressive, not that any of the patients aren't nice or anything. Its just that some patients cant control themselves because keep in mind this is the phych ward. I work with people with memory lost and etc. They are a lot of fun don't get me wrong, and i think they are growing on to me.

Today i met some more patients. I Met Shirley who i now am expected to visit one on one as well. Again meeting new people who i know nothing about is still a hard thing for me to do because i am a very shy person. But she too was very easy to talk to. She told me stories of her granddaughter and other stories of her life. She is one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet but you also don't want to experience the nasty side of her. I help pass out dinner which are already prepared on trays so all i had to do is figure out which tray belonged to who. Most patients eat in there room but the ones out in the dining room/ activity room which was about 15 people or so, had to receive there food. This gave me an opportunity to meet some more patients.

Today i visited Robert. Robert is his first name but he told me to call him Mr. Roberts. He is a really funny guy. I learned he used to be a motorcycle racer and loved Harley Davidson's. It took me a while but i was able to break the ice and he turned out to be someone easy to talk to. After a while it seem like he was a friend i had know for months. I heard some stories today that he told about his past and how he grew up. He would often blank out and i had to remind him what we were talking about. I think you have to have a lot of patience to work here because all of the conversations were slow and a simple story could take a half an hour but it was really worth the wait because i learned so much intresting stuff from him.

Today i Met my first patient who i was expected to have one on one time with. I was suppose to introduce myself and make friends with this stranger. His name was Robert. It was a challenge for me because i didn't have any knowledge of his background and he also knew nothing about me as well. So it was a challenge to figure out what to say and make sure i don't offend him. I had to keep in mind he is much older than me and the language i use everyday might not work with him. So i had to adjust myself to fit his environment.

Today was my first day at volunteering. I was nervous at first because it was a new environment and i didn't know what to expect. I didn't even know where to go our where my mentor was but eventually a nurse helped me find my way. I then was taken on yet another tour of just my ward. Its also called a community or unit. Its a small section with the same kind of people with the same kind of problems. Most of which were not allowed to leave the area or their alarm would ring. So this made me feel a little better coming to visit them because they don't have much people come down to visit them.

Senior Project
Today i had another appointment with my Director Jan. He helped me pick out where i want to volunteer at and told me about what i am expected to do. I then had to get my picture taken and received a badge that would allow me access into the building. After that i was given another tour inside the new building where i would be working and met one of my mentors. He was funny and made joke about if i was sure i wanted to work there because i had chosen to work at the pychoanalysis ward. It made me rethink twice if i was sure i was up for the challenge

Senior Project
Today i went to orientation for 3 hours to figure out what part of the hospital i wanted to work at. There are so many different wards and different types of patients i didn't know which one to pick. We learned how to assist someone on a wheel chair without hurting them and learned some procedures we must follow.

The Kite Runner post 5

The Kite Runner is a pretty sad book, people getting shot, people trying to commit suicide but the end was kinda of nice. He flew his kite with his friend at a park. I think there was a pretty good message in the book thought. Like life is full of disappoints and surprises, but hope and optimism for a better future can get you through it. I think at the end of the story when they were flying kites and the other kite string was snapped it represented and symbolized letting go of the past.

I like how the author uses other another Language for some words to make it seem more real. Chapter 17 made me feel sad because he found his friend was shot even after he had proof and the neighbors supported him. It made me upset when i found out that they killed him because they wanted the house for themselves. I also felt sympathy for Amir because he felt like it was his fault his friend died and he was living a lie because he just found out he had a brother.

Baba sounds like a really strong Character emotionaly and physicly, i picture him big and muscular because he was able to life Karim by the neck and joke him. That was a pretty intense short little scene. But also there was still a couple of alliteration in the story and i think its the authors trade mark. Its hard to write a book to begin with but to put allot of alliterations must be harder.

In Chapter 4 the narrator says never mind allot to prove his point, its very repetitive. Usually they just say so but i think he did that to give the narrator personality. What i don't understand is if they did all of those stuff together, why wouldn't you consider each other friends? Also i found that there was alliterations that helped get to know the character by seeing he's somewhat a playful kid.

I like how the story starts with like a for shadowing event kind of thing about the 1975 winter. He mentioned it more than once that tells me that something important probably happened and probably what this whole book is about. Also he is in San Francisco my home town where i was born and raised to i like it already. What i don't like is that he off the bat gave allot of names and that are kind of fun to say but i have a feeling I'm going to get them mixed up. I also didn't like how the Hassan character reacted to the soldier who was talking about his mother. I would have done something i wouldn't care if he was a soldier.

I really like the imagery the book gives you allot of show not tell like when O'Brien was telling Winston about the rats he gave great details and it really made you feel what the author was trying to make you feel and its not just one feeling its a mixture of suspense, scared, and horror at the same time. It help you understand the story more because you can feel what the character is feeling. Even though he was being tortured, i didn't like the fact that he was screaming to do it to Julia and not him and all the other stuff he said. Yea i understand hes being tortured but hes a guy and shes a girl, that's just kind of messed up.

The beginning of chapter 8 the i liked how they set the tone by giving you an image of the room and how he was feeling nervous and excited at the same time because he thinks hes free. I like Winston even more when he said he liked to join the secret organization that works against the party. I can conclude that if i was comparing this story to a quest Winston is the night in shining armor.

In the second book, he meets this girl and he ends up hooking up with her but they just met. That is the one of the riskiest thing he could do because for all he knows she could be spy and it is illegal to but it reveals the hypocrisy of the party members. It really annoys me that they think they can do anything they want and tell others they can't do the same thing as them. And i think that pretty gross how he just made love to a girl that got around. They obviously didn't take a health class.

The second chapter is really good because it gives us a issue already. I find it odd that little kids came to the park to see prisoners gt hanged. This place sounds so horrible, the children whine and roar if they don't get to watch the hanging. they even have police to monitor thoughts, this sounds a little too up tight for my comfort and to feel like nothing is yours except a few centimeters inside your skull is just too much for me. Its makes me feel kind of annoyed of the Big Brother Party. And they are evil queen in this quest

The slogan of the party is a really a bold statement and its not just mentions once in the books. This is very surprising to me because as a ruling party i would expect something much different. I disagree with that slogan but its not my book or story so it doesn't really matter. But even today some people have the same theory as the slogan but i don't think to this extent. From what it sounds like the party has allot of power and has allot of control over the civilian lives. It just sounds like a nightmare. I mean they aren't even allowed to have free thoughts? and if you do its a "Thought crime" i just can't imagine living in a society like this one

What is the What blog 5

Different cultures clash all the time even in the United States, especially when Foreigners come from a different culture and have to quickly adapt the the customs of the U.S. So in the book when it talks about a man killing his wife because of his beliefs its not a new thing. Even on the News today there are stories like that and there are also many fights because different cultures have different beliefs and sometimes they are total opposite and it starts a disagreement and possibly a fight. I can relate to this because my parents customs are different to the customs i learn and pick up and school and sometimes they start they can agree and adapt and other times they argue about it with me

What is the What blog 4

Throughout the book of What is the what, Valentino tells us the his past experiences trying to escape and avoid the violence and i think it symbolizes whats happening around the world today. I think people out there in like the Middle East, Burma and other countries that are not in peace can relate to his stories. The author even gives you specific details of what kind of guns the soldiers are carrying instead of just saying guns and it just shows that he really has a strong feeling about this topic and it can transfer to the reader and i like that about the book. You can kinda like feel the emotions the authors going through so its not just a book or story.
